Fresh Spring

Parents are giving the living room a fresh new paint job. Time for new spring photography, but not just the basic flowers and landscape photography. Time to try new angles and styles. I think I'm going to try some black and white mixed with some colour to define the sharpness of the flowers and make the photos stand out from the grey walls. The walls being grey makes it a lot easier for my art to stand out and allows the viewers to embrace the full experience. I want the work to be different and unique from other styles that's what sets photographers apart from other photographers and other artists. Use others as a guideline don't plagiarize! :)

What is Photography doing to itself?

Everywhere we look there is always a different form of photography. Photography to me is very inspirational in my everyday life. When I look around and see different forms the first question I use to ask myself have I seen a similar style?

Photography now a days is very easy to do with all these new programs, such as Photoshop, InDesign, or even apps now downloaded straight to your phone. Now the most common question I ask is did someone actually try to look at that angle or was it edited to no remorse or another question is, is it unique or taken off Google .I don't edit my photography, usually, but all these new programs how could you not mess around, especially the ones on your phone. The only reason I edit is to play around with different styles or to create an idea for an ideal shoot. When I take the shot there is no need to edit. Remember all the cool things you could do in the darkroom, those were some of my best photography memories. Now you don't have to leave the house. What is photography coming to?!?

My Favourite Styles/Type of Photography

There are many different styles/types of photography such as Aerial (Plane Photography), action/ adventure, Event (Wedding, birthday, ect.), Black and White, and so much more. I find every kind of photography, no mater the kind, different and interesting.

My personal favourite is black and white landscape but mixing two film strips together. One that I did consisted of black and white train tracks with three people walking that looked like ghosts. I like to experiment with different kinds of photography. I can't stick with one type or style of photography I mix them all up to create a different yet unique style of my own.

What to look for when taking a basic photograph

Hello! Jason here again going to explain how to take a basic photograph. Make sure you center the object/people in the frame and shoot. Okay, that sounds boring. When taking a photograph  try something new, something unique. Explore different angles, different lighting and different camera       settings. Don't make your photo boring, make it stand out. Don't just take one photo take plenty maybe one photograph out of the 10 is the special one.  When I take photographs I normally take more than one, flip my camera around, try different levels or angles, and try different areas I've never tried before. Honestly it doesn't hurt trying new shots because it may turn into a new style you may enjoy. Some photos I've taken I actually like them better sideways or upside down, as weird as it sounds. Like I said if it's digital there are different settings to fool around with even if it says use for bright sun try it at night and see what you get! My favorite style is without flash, I find I get more control out of it. Enjoy taking the photographs and have fun, that's number one!

Camera vs Phones

Back when I started with a camera I ran off a 7 megapixal sony cyber shot. now cameras are so much more advanced to the point you can edit directly from the touch screen camera! I was in Best Buy the other day looking at cameras that were similar to mine and it seems like 16 mega pixals is the new standard. I also just recently got a new smartphone in September and it is 8 mega pixels and they are increasing every phone which is scarey to say that cell phones are sneaking into the camera sales market. Will they eventually go out of business if they do not creep their way into the cell phone market? Well that is my thought of what is going to happen in the near future. I really hope that cell phones do get better with their cameras bbecause it increases the competition between both markets the hit perfection. I thimk it should be very interesting in ten years to see what they come up with.

How I Started Photography

Photography didn't just click into my head. Ever since I was young I loved taking photographs. I was the picture taker for the family events. As I grew up and started high school, I had to do 40 hours of community service and decided to do my hours at LAMP Community Center. This center brought youth together to help with suggestions and volunteering around the community. Then they started mentioning a photography program they offer for youths to try out the dark room. As soon as they mentioned it i signed up, and sure enough every Thursday night 6-9 PM I was in the dark room at Gallery 44 (Spadina & Queen). I learned how to mix the chemicals to properly develop my photos, the right amount of light to add to the photograph so it doesn't turn black, how to boarder the photographs, and by the end of it I was teaching people. At the end of it they set up a gallery to sell our photographs and sell 2 photos, I sold both. Then the next year came and I decided to do it again, even though I got over my 40 hours of community service I was motivated by this program. So I did it again and mostly this time helped the teachers and developed a few nice photographs for the gallery. I did sell both of them again and it was a lot of fun helping people around the darkroom. Word got to the gallery and put me in a list of 40 people and I won  with another guy the David Maltby Award which game me $100 of photography supplies (Chemicals, Paper) and 4, 4 hour sessions. I took a lot of advantage of that and created great photographs. Word got across that I won that and then I was asked to help with Project Zine which got me taking photographs of downtown Toronto and the city.

The next year in grade 12 photography class was an option so I took it, and helped most of the class. I got a 93% in the class with was 1% lower then the highest grade in the class, which I helped the through the class. At the end of it all I applied for a few photography schools and didn't get accepted, but I think I just didn't give enough variety. I ended up getting into Advertising and am really enjoying it! I defiantly will keep up with photography and attempt to get back into it eventually but right now it is a hobby.
